And the Little One said, “Roll over! Roll over!”

Dearest Baby Skyler,

You’re 5 months old today and weigh about 6.1kg. You’ve also grown taller and are about 66cm tall now. How quickly you’re growing and learning new skills to impress your Papa and Mama!

Earlier this month, you perfected the art of rolling over and doing tummy-time on your own. Since you’re able to lift your head up high now while you’re on your tummy, Papa and I are less worried about you rolling over in your sleep.

Still, because you have yet to learn the equally important skill of rolling back onto your back when you’re on your tummy, you’ve cried out for Papa and Mama many-a-times in the deep of night to go “rescue” you after you’ve rolled over onto your tummy in your sleep. Poor sweet Baby Girl! Papa and Mama do hope you acquire the skill of rolling back onto your back soon so you can sleep better in the night.

We love you, Baby Skyler! Continue to impress us with your amazing new skills!

Skyler's 1st Visit to the ZOO =D

Dearest Baby Daughter of Ours,

We had our very first family outing to the zoo today! =D

It was exceptionally crowded at the zoo today because it was the MOE “Zoo-Manji” Family Day. There were also many strollers all over the place, and people were laying out their groundsheets to have picnics wherever there was an empty spot on the ground.

Thankfully, we managed to find a nice quiet corner right in front of the elephant enclosure. While the elephants walked round and round and in and out of their watering hole,

we hid from the blazing heat under the shelter in front of the elephant enclosure and had lots of fun watching them and taking photos.

(It’s a bird… It’s a plane… It’s SUPER Skyler!!!)

(Super Skyler: “Hello, Citizen!" )

Later in the afternoon, two elephants lumbered right past us while we were heading to the polar bear enclosure. What a stunning sight!

Near the manatee and pelican enclosure, a little girl asked her papa, “Daddy, is the pelican taller than me?”

Isn’t it funny the questions children ask? And though the little girl looked decidedly taller than a pelican, her papa, who seemed a little distracted by the orang utans playing in the trees above us, said, “Yes.”

At the penguin enclosure, a curious little penguin kept swimming up to catch a glimpse of you. It actually seemed more intrigued by you than you were by it!

By late afternoon, you were so tired. Still, you were tickled silly by a yellow fluffy duckie hand puppet in the zoo souvenir store. As the duckie quacked and tickled you, you laughed and laughed to the amusement of passers-by.

What a day we had at the zoo, Baby Duckie! Papa Duckie and Mama Duckie will always love you!

From 3mm to 65cm in a year!

Dearest Baby Daughter of Ours,

One year ago, on this day, Mama and Papa found out about your existence and saw you on the monitor during an ultrasound to confirm your existence. You looked the size of a little jellybean on the screen, so Papa and Mama thought you were already that big. It was only when we received the ultrasound report a few days later that we found out you were only 3mm big! And yet, at 3mm big, you had a strong, healthy heartbeat!

One year on, you’re a beautiful little baby girl and 65cm tall. Look how much you’ve grown!

And yesterday, you even had your 1st ride on the MRT train!

Everything is new and beautiful in this world because of you, Baby Skyler. Next weekend, we’ll be going to the zoo for the MOE “Zoo-Manji” Family Day. What strange and curious animals will we see there? What silly antics will they be up to? Will we get to meet any new baby animals? Papa and Mama can’t wait to bring you there!

We love you!!! =D

“Born to Read, Read to Bond”

Dearest Baby Skyler,

Congratulations on being an official member of our National Library Board! =D

Mama just found out today that our National Library Board is on a drive to encourage children to read. Called “Born to Read, Read to Bond”, the campaign encourages parents to bring their little ones to the library and read with them. With the launch of this campaign, even newborns can be members of the library, so we quickly registered you so you can have your own library card. You were also given a “reading bag” to put all your books in.

Papa and Mama are really glad that our National Library Board is encouraging even babies to read. The Woodlands Regional Library even has lovely areas where parents can read to their children!

Papa and Mama love reading, which is why our Study is cluttered with a whole assortment of books. Mama enjoys comics and quirky stories. One of Mama’s favourite books is “The Princess Bride” by William Goldman. Papa enjoys thrillers and adventure stories, and one of Papa’s favourite authors is Tom Clancy. Of course, Papa enjoys reading all sorts of comics too!

Before Papa and Mama started dating, when we were just good friends, we realised that we shared a love for “Calvin and Hobbes”, a comic strip about a young boy and his tiger friend. This remains one of our favourite comics to date because of the wit and creativity of Bill Watterson, the author. In the strips, Calvin and Hobbes also share an incredible bond that makes this comic strip all the more endearing. This is one of the books we would like to share with you when you are a little older, Baby Skyler. We’re sure you’ll come to love it too!

We’ve been reading to you since you were only a few weeks’ old. Papa and Mama hope that you will enjoy reading as much as we do.

Grow well, Baby Skyler, and may you come to love the lyrical and magical world of books!

Mama's Day 2006

Dearest Little One,

Today, we celebrated Mother’s Day! Actually, we celebrated Mama’s Day twice this year because Papa got the dates mixed up and we wished Mama Happy Mama’s Day last Sunday as well. =D Anyway, we both gave Mama ‘kissie sandwiches’ and she was so happy with that! =D

This is Mama’s first Mama’s Day because you are the one who made Mama a Mama. =D

We brought Mama to church in the morning before having lunch with Kow-fu and Kow-mo and finally went shopping. Bought Mama a mug to go with the one you both bought for my birthday.

Papa was so silly and didn’t do anything special and out of the ordinary to give Mama special memories of her first Mama’s Day! So terrible! And Mama always does something memorable for us. Sorry Mama Duckie!

Baby Girl, you must love and honour Mama, okay? Mama has done so much for you and she loves you SO VERY VERY MUCH!!! She is always concerned about you and she really centres her life on your needs. We both are still trying to figure out how to care for you when Mama continues her studies and Papa is working. Mama sometimes even thinks about not carrying on so that she can care for you. Mama sacrifices so much for you. And she still has not recovered completely from carrying and delivering you. Mama loves you so much! I’m going to keep reminding you of this because it’s so true! So please don’t make her unhappy or disappoint her behaviour-wise, okay? EVERY DAY SHOULD BE MAMA’S DAY!

We love you, Little One.
